Here are 3 ideas to consider this week…
1. Mindful philosophy
Buddhist philosophy, which incorporates mindful awareness of the present moment, extends beyond abstract theories. It takes an interest in self-awareness and emotional understanding in a way that makes a practical difference for our mental well-being.
Philosophy can be about more than just reading theories in books…
2. Comedy and catharsis
Philosophically, thinkers like Plato and Aristotle have examined the function of humour, with Aristotle suggesting in the Nicomachean Ethics that amusement can offer catharsis, a release of pent-up emotions that helps restore balance in our lives. Yes, laughter is sometimes the best medicine.
3. Self-aware goals
Self-awareness is an important part of establishing meaningful goals. For the Stoics, being self-aware includes understanding our place within a broader interconnected system of nature.
It doesn’t make sense setting a goal that is more suited to someone else’s values and personality than to your own.
