🎨wise365: Art and truth, unpleasant tasks, technology and authenticity
A few minutes of philosophy for you - wise365
Happy wise365 Tuesday!
Here are 3 ideas to consider this week…
1. Gadamer on art and truth
For Gadamer, art’s truth lies in its ability to deepen our understanding and experience of the world, offering insights and meanings beyond the reach of logical reasoning or scientific explanation.
We all want to understand the world around us.
But there is a lot going on these days: new technology, global conflicts, new ways of relating to one another.
It is so complicated that it’s enough to spark panic and despair.
Perhaps there is some hope, if we get back to the basics of our experience.
Art can be seen as a gateway to truths beyond logic and science.
Art isn’t just about formal beauty: color, composition, and medium. It is capable of reframing everyday experience and offering a perspective that doesn’t depend on intellectual understanding.
2. Unpleasant tasks
Identify an unpleasant task and reflect on why it feels daunting. Reframe it as an opportunity for personal growth by linking it to a virtue like patience or discipline. Before starting, take a deep breath, focus on the task’s broader purpose, and work mindfully. Reflect afterward on your growth and insights.

The fact that it's so easy for us to procrastinate is actually quite a striking feature of human experience. We know we shouldn’t… but we do it anyway.
3. Technology and authenticity
Does technology dilute or enhance our ability to connect with authentic human experiences?
We live in a world in which it seems that everyone is trying to curate the “perfect” online self-image. It can be hard to be yourself when it seems like nobody else is.
