wise365: Sartre in a social media world, openness to change, the value of self-sufficiency

A few minutes of philosophy for you - wise365

Happy wise365 Tuesday!

Here are 3 ideas to consider this week…

1.

Sartre saw purpose in life as something we craft for ourselves through conscious choices and commitments. The pressure to conform in today's social media-governed world can make it difficult to get the full sense of our freedom as we pursue purpose.

2.

Part of self-care is to be open to change by keeping in mind Heraclitus' perspective: change is the only constant in life.

3.

“Jean-Jacques Rousseau criticized societal comparisons, emphasizing the need for self-sufficiency and a return to simpler values rooted in individual purpose.” (Decluttering and Minimalism: A Workbook to Harness Philosophy for Everyday Simplicity)

Journaling Prompt

Consider the idea that purpose in life is something we create for ourselves through our choices and commitments, as suggested by Sartre. Reflect on how the influence of social media might impact your sense of freedom in shaping your purpose. Are there ways you feel social media encourages conformity, and how do you consciously make choices to stay true to your own values and aspirations?
